Description
kawakawa Tuna (Zardeh)
The kawakawa tuna, known locally as Zardeh, is an oily fish from the Scombridae family (the same family as tuna). It can be identified by the striped skin on its back. This species is one of the most common fish in the oceans and the Oman Sea.
The body is strong, elongated, and spindle-shaped. Its jaws contain a row of sharp teeth adapted for carnivorous feeding, while the roof of the mouth and lower blade also bear teeth. Except for the pectoral girdle and the lateral line, the body is scaleless. The back is dark blue with intricate markings that end before the base of the first dorsal fin. The sides and belly are silvery white, and several dark spots can sometimes be seen between the base of the pectoral and pelvic fins.
Nutritional Benefits of kawakawa Tuna
