The habitat of the Sultan Ibrahim varies from shallow coastal waters at depths of about 5 meters to deeper waters exceeding 80 meters. Many Sultan Ibrahim in the southern regions prefer coral reefs, rocky areas, and brackish bays for living. This fish belongs to the goatfish family and is locally known by names such as Hamir, Hamra, and Small Sorkho due to its similarity to the red snapper, with which it is sometimes confused.
