Types of Marine Eels (Family Muraenesocidae)
Marine predatory eels (Muraenesocidae) have significant commercial value in countries where their consumption is culturally acceptable. Pakistan and Bangladesh are among the nations where these eels are particularly popular. In Iran, two species exist, but due to the wide variety of fish available, they do not have many fans locally.
Nutritional Benefits of Eel
Eel is a fish with a snake-like body, very tender flesh, and a high fat content. Smoked eel is considered the most delicious, but it can also be fried, baked, boiled, or used in stews. This fish is rich in protein, folate, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.
In many regions of Asia, such as Japan and Korea, as well as some parts of Europe, it is believed that eating eel increases the strength of elderly people. In Korea, people consider eel the best source of energy. Producing eel-based supplements is also simple: the skin, flesh, and bones of the fish are ground into powder and made into capsules.
