Description
The Kato fish has a small, compact, rectangular-shaped body. Its back is grayish, while the sides and belly are silvery. A distinctive dark spot is located above the rear part of its gill cover. Kato fish are typically carnivorous and considered predatory. They have few bones, live near the surface, and move in schools. Their diet mainly consists of small crustaceans, filtered through their gill rakers. The maximum body length can reach up to 80 cm. Their habitat ranges from the eastern coast of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Persian Gulf to Formosa, Hawaii, and Queensland.
