Rainbow Trout is one of the most common salmon species, mostly found in the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic. This fish generally lives in the sea and then migrates to rivers for spawning. A notable physical feature of this species is its silver-colored body. The average length of pink salmon does not exceed 70 cm, and its weight is about 2.5 kg. The reason it is known as “Rainbow Trout” is due to the color of its flesh, which ranges from light orange to pink.

In Iran, Rainbow Trout farming is mainly carried out to increase added value, improve market quality, and meet consumer preferences. The farming conditions are similar to those of regular salmon, but with stricter control over feed type, water quality, and growth period.

Nutritional Benefits of Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout contains relatively high levels of protein, which play an important role in vital body functions. Proteins are essential for building and maintaining muscles, skin, hair, nails, and other body structures. Every 100 grams of Rainbow Trout meat contains around 20 grams of protein. An important point about this protein is its richness in essential amino acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids are present in all fish, but their levels vary. Pink salmon is considered one of the fish richest in omega-3. The presence of these fatty acids helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, cardiovascular diseases, depression, breast cancer, stress, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.

The best cooking method depends on several factors, including the size of the fish, preferred cooking time, and texture, all of which influence the final result. For smaller, skin-on fish, pan-frying with a little oil is recommended to achieve a crispy texture. For larger, skinless fillets, oven-baking is the best option to keep the meat tender and juicy.
